The Staff Weighs In...

First, thank you Mr. Anonymous for aiding me in my mission. This article, from, seems to illustrate the Hollywood high-uppers distaste for disrespect at their annual gushfest gala. I did not watch the show, but I've heard that he actually did a pretty good job...and even made jokes at the expense of Democrats! Well done Joprah Stewart! However, (un)fortunately, I was proven correct twice, as the amount of viewers was the second smallest since 1987. Maybe they'll nominate some movies that made $$ at the box office next time, although I wouldn't be so sure of it considering George Clooney is proud to be "out of touch" with America, as he feels his (and by extension the rest of the Hollywood Joprah Stewart haters) moral superiority outweighs television ratings and box 0ffice returns. I wouldn't be surprised if he becomes head of the Academy for his courageous comments.

Second, for all of you who think that perhaps my mathematical formulations prove that I'm anti-gay, probably some coon-skinned bumble dunk from Tennessee, you're wrong. I'm sorry if it came off that way, but I happen to support gay rights. I actually voted for the gay marriage ammendment...before I voted against it (...just kidding, I was all for it), because I don't think that one's personal religious values should be imposed upon the American citizenry-at-large. I believe that government has no place in telling people how to live. If I want to marry a guy without some blowhard red-faced "Christian" evangelizer telling me I can't, by all means, I should be able to have at it. If I want to put up the 10 Commandments in my classroom, I don't want some long-haired "Buddhist" who doesn't know anything about Buddhism telling me I'm persecuting him. That's not to say I personally think either of those things are "right" or "wrong", but simply that it's not Uncle Sam's business to tell me either way. That's also why I'm allowed to make fun of it.

The bigger issue is this: I think that Washington is mired in a cultural power grab with both sides seeking to impose their worldview upon the other. This battle is played out somewhat across the fruited plains, but mainly it is political and cultural elites inside the beltway engaged in an intense rendition of one-upmanship. The ante was upped since a new worldview was imposed upon us after 9/11, so the battle wages on ever more intensely. It's pretty exhausting to even listen to what happens in Washington anymore, on both sides.

The solution is Libertarianism. I hope that enough people get fed up with all of these political elites telling them how to live that this personal freedom friendly party gets a shot. It probably will never happen, because (and this is my only problem with them) they are incredibly weak on national security, but it's worth supporting something that you can actually believe in rather than simply being forced to consider the lesser of two evils. I think that I may be in pretty good company here....let me check with some people here on my staff to see....

"That government is best which governs least."

"Were we directed from Washington when to sow and when to reap, we should soon want bread."

"Where there is liberty, there is my country"

"Everything that is really great and inspiring is created by the individual who can labor in freedom."

"Those who profess to favor freedom, and yet depreciate agitation, are men who want rain without thunder and lightning."

Ok, thank you Mr.'s Paine/Thoreau, Jefferson, Franklin, Einstein and Douglass, your input on this matter was much appreciated. You see, these guys would faint if they came back now and saw the size and scope of the federal government. America was founded upon liberty. Liberals now want "equal opportunity" to liberty. Well, where do you draw the lines? Who decides who needs help? You can't have rain and thunder without lightning people....And conservatives think the Founding Fathers were Christians (they weren't - they were Deists) and so they can impose their values through federal means. It all would make these men puke if they came back.
